In the 1980s, wine aficionados knew almost nothing about the wines of Washington State. But today, the region is world-renowned and Apex Cellars deserves much of the credit. In fact, Apex’s owner was twice recognized as “winemaker of the year” in Washington State (the only person to ever win two times). He has also won hundreds of awards for the red and white varietals he produces at Apex Cellars.

| Wine Description
|
| Dark and unusually rich, this Merlot is more complex than most because of the cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon blended into it. The result show sweet cherry, vanilla and spice, and hints of anise and chocolate combined in a velvety package. |

| Brian Carter was a microbiology major at Oregon State University in the late 1970s. A wine appreciation class seemed like an interesting elective, and that class spurred him to visit local wineries. His interest soon became his calling, and today Brian Carter is one of the most respected winemakers in Washington State. |
